The weather isn’t great, but it doesn’t look fall-out-of-the-sky terrible

RIP.  This airline doesn’t seem to have a good safety record and the plane was only a year old.

God dammit. New plane that soon after takeoff...hard to assume this was not an equipment failure...

I don’t think I will be flying into Indonesia any time soon... Looks like a nearly new 737 Max...  Is this the first Max crash?

10 minutes in the air and never got above 5500 feet?

Hope they find survivors, but doesn’t look promising.

That’s extremely interesting...they must have hit a huge storm

ADS-B reported the final vertical rate at -7700 fpm O_O

It is. I occasionally fly one so I’m very interested in the causes.

With a final vertical rate of -7k, I almost want to assume microburst? I certainly hope not a mechanical failure on such a new aircraft. I guess we'll learn as the situation progresses.

Indonesia is beautiful but their are a lot of very good reasons not to go there.

Climb was very erratic from the moment it took off, and Avweb.com is reporting that there may have been issues with the aircraft the night before.

I imagine we will know for sure relatively quickly.

I wonder how they would have uploaded a photo - over in-flight wifi?

They never made it over 5000 ft.  It I saw unlikely they would have deployed the masks.
